Jinxy, your post did make me review my own attitude to psting. Until now I've only uploaded programs that people have requested or clips that I know are going to be in high demand. However I know I am very timid in requesting files, so maybe others are too and I should be more pro-active at sharing the random files I have. However, equally I don't want to waste board bandwidth by posting files that no-one wants, so I'm kind of in a quandry.
I admit I've been guilty of doing pretty much the same thing, not only for the same reasons you've given, but also because reposting files can be time-consuming in and of itself (especially since Yousendit doesn't always behave itself and the links are only temporary). I definitely understand why those of you who've made and shared all of these wonderful videos here in the first place would prefer other people to repost your videos after the original links expire. It's the very least the rest of us can do in return.
I actually considered reposting all of the videos I was able to burn safely onto CDs before my old hard drive crashed--many of which haven't been reposted here for months--but didn't do it right away since I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in downloading them. Now that I know just how many new members have joined this forum, I'm going to do just that. It's the very least I can do for all the additional "taking" I've had to do this past week...and I'm starting with 1994 Ice Wars.
As always, many thanks to all of you who make, share and repost all of these wonderful videos! The extra effort is definitely worth it!

I just wanted to add my .02--some weeks it seems that YSI works well for me, and I can repost a lot of stuff. Other weeks, like the last 2, nothing I try to send seems to work.
It doesn't help that 3 college students moved next door and have been hopping onto our wireless connection.
When we can, my husband and I will post camcorder vids of the competitions we attend. I hope that that compensates for the reposting we haven't been doing lately.
About all I've been able to get up have been some Rudy Galindo vids.

Random vids threads get to confusing, so a no from me. Just post your requests in the excisting threads and hopfully someone is so kind reposting what you like. I also rather post new videos as I repost older ones I have made already.
Randoms make me crazy. I prefer orderly and organized. The indexes are great.
I am grateful to those who offer new clips and thankful to those who repost as thank yous for clips recieved.
I too am bothered by those who ask, ask, ask with long lists and do not offer the apparent storehouse of clips they must already have if they are not asking for them but thats just the way the world is. Some people are mostly takers and just give out token offerings to keep getting more.
Whenever possible, I will repost large or small requests but if it seems that there is no response it could be as I have experienced big problems with YouSendIt. There was a whole day one weekend when I could not get a server lower that 56. Sometimes I think there is no post because there is not clip available. Sometimes the thead drops so fast on the page people have not noticed the request because it is thought there is nothing new.
When skatesindreams lost so many videos we jumped in and massively reposted lots of stuff. Maybe for the new people we could periodically organize a repostingfest of a specific thread or skater and coordinate it by first announcing it in advance so people would know when it will happen and then coordinating who will post what?
What is so great about this place is that there is room for all types of us and a good level of "toller-ance" for all types.
The growth rate is amazing. This is big. Congratulations LLOS for your success and thank you for making this site. You have a clear vision of what this site is and you stick to it which makes it thrive.
Well and really got when I discovered the here.

Doris...I think we are on the same wavelength tonight! It occurred to me while driving home from work that perhaps we could pick a date and designate it as REPOSTING MARATHON DAY!!! And then just repost the heck out of some of the lively threads that have faded away into distant memory.
Coincidentally, I decided to upload all of The Planets this morning, just to resurrect that thread for newcomers. I feel the same way about the John Curry and Janet Lynn ice ballet, and assorted other fabulous oldies threads that deserve to live again. And some of you have favorite skaters and competitions that you might enjoy turning people on to.
Anyway, I like the idea of really making a concerted effort to refresh a few major threads for the sake of our newbies, who can then have the pleasure of reposting them again for the next flight of newbies that arrive (i figure we'll get waves of newcomers as the season heats up and the competition vids start gushing in).

I like your Reposting Marathon Day idea. But do you think that YouSendIt might explode and we would find ourselves and . Maybe we could sneak up on them and plan it out over time?
LadyNit- 10-11-2005
ooops...i forgot about eville YouSendIt and it's finicky ways. I like the idea of "sneaking up on it" but am not a very good planner. So if anyone has any take-charge method for how to plan the sneak attack, I'll be a willing participant.

Lots of people are signing on now. Many I think are coming here to be able to pick up this seasons big competitions like the Olympics and then Worlds. So just like the original VideoVault (R.I.P.) with the Euro-members downloading from Eurosport and then making and uploading the videos, this place will do the same and it will be available to current members only. I think that is much of the growth.
For those like me after the 2005 Worlds who become exposed to historic skating and want more we can repost now.
Perhaps we could quickly poll the Skating Videos population over a week and ask what the newer people want reposted and then do it in order based on volume of response?
I have been roaming the threads to see if there are requests I can fill but the requests are so random.
LLOS- 10-12-2005
I very much like the idea of REPOSTING MARATHON DAY!! I'm in we can announce in advance which event gets a full reposts and who does the resposting, when like 5 people repost for example Worlds 2005 SP of one discipline, one of them just need to post a few so it won't be that much work. Yes, a poll of "What do you want us to repost?" would be helpful to to know what people whish to have. What do you think?
floskate- 10-12-2005
I like the idea too but it does depend on what day of the week we repost
And yay for the poll - it'll be good to see what everyone wants.
LadyNit- 10-12-2005
YES LLOS! A poll would be good. Meanwhile, I'm re-posting what I like and what I remember being very popular the first time around.
hugs. will you do the poll?
LLOS- 10-12-2005
Well first of all, should I choose random events for the poll? Which day of the reposting do you prefer? Of course not on a day we expect to get new season vids, right?
LadyNit- 10-12-2005
right... Saturday, Oct. 15 is OUT because we will be BUSY with Campell's!!!
maybe we need a poll to choose a good re=post day too!
and for the vid repost poll - maybe we could start with general choice:
do you want specific show or competition or skaters? do you want from 1970s - 1980s - 1990s- 2000s?
or maybe we just need a big ol' REPOST Marathon begging thread, where people can put their requests. I dunno.
confession: really, I have a feeling, I'll just be posting whatever I like most anyway. I'm NOT reposting stuff from 2004 and 5 on general principle...it's out there everywhere already
jinxy901- 10-12-2005
Thanks for all of the responses and input. I am thrilled about finding this site and I hope to be a daily, active member. When I form a strong catalogue of videos I will surely scan the index and respond to request's to fufill them. The more we fufill these request's the greater chance we have at receiving rare and exciting new video's from newbies.

Well, right now I'm just reposting, well, whatever the heck I was able to burn onto CD before my hard drive collapsed. A lot of the videos I was able to salvage haven't been reposted in months, so hopefully someone out there will download and appreciate them!

How about by category. One at a time.
We could start with dance and make a list of teams available (from the index?) for people to mark. Could there be more than one pick per person but not unlimited like you get three picks?
Give people a week to register their requests on the poll. Then do it by people volunteering to post a group of major competitions (like I would because I mostly have just the competition stuff) or professional or minor competitions. We list what we can and will post.
LLOS, I have no idea how you do this so my ideas may not be realistic, but if you can do all categories at once (that sounds like a huge job though) then we could rotate through them by most popular to least?
About the reposting. Would it work to give people a full week notice of the dates of reposting a skater or team and then upload in advance over a number of days so as not to kill YouSendIt and then post it all giving everyone at least four or five days to get them?
